Sweet Summertime

It's gray and rainy this morning and I can feel that summer is drawing to a close, even though it will be hot for at least another six to eight weeks here.
At the start of summer, I had a list of things I wanted to do--read for fun, read some preparatory materials for grad school, learn some printmaking techniques, and figure out what I'm going to do with my degree when I finish.
I managed most of those things, except figuring out what to do with an English degree (I think I'll just wing it), so I'd like to try just a few more things, like making a delicious watermelon this pretty...

I don't actually have anything particularly useful to do this weekend, except review a little bit of French and practice some conversation with my grandmother so that I'm ready for the oral interview on Wednesday.  So I'm not just imagining that I can go out and buy myself a whole new outfit, but I'm also imagining I'd have some place to wear it (though it would be perfect for a friend's wedding next weekend...).  I just finished A Vintage Affair, a fun and purely indulgent quick read, and it's left me wanting a pretty vintage dress rather badly.  If I could get this pretty blue one (that has already sold, alas), it'd be quite perfect for anything during the summer and cute with leggings or tights and my brown boots in the winter.

an afternoon wedding

Three years ago, during the silly days of high school, M and J started dating.  They were far too cute, and it makes me smile to see that nothing has changed.  We haven't seen each other much, the  way college tends to move people around and such, but I was happy to attend M's wedding today with my long time best friend Kat.

M has always been a sweet girl, and the pink and black colors of the day suited her perfectly.  I was also enormously impressed by her gown.  I don't know where she found it, but it was so lovely and fit her just right, both physically and in style.  She was lovely and so crazy obviously (or should I say obliviously?) happy.  I can't believe how fast the time has flown since we were in graduation gowns and tossing our caps in the air.

Sadly, thanks to traffic, I missed most of the ceremony.  But the few moments I caught were beautiful.  M has many siblings, and it was neat to see all of them together to participate.  Her family was really lovely all together in their wedding attire.  Her little sisters were particularly adorable in their coordinating dresses.  So sweet!

p.s Kat had a surprise for me that I'll share tomorrow.  She's so crafty!

p.p.s. M, your little sisters were collecting the petals from all the tables after the reception.  Their baskets were overflowing.
